to rachel and amanda:

what do you think i am? some sort of cargo ship?

anyway,
rachel: yes i will get you the issue of girlfriend... actually the interview with her is only 1 page long, i read it while waiting to pay for my groceries but the whole issue is pretty cool... and yeah i'll get you starburst, although it is available in singapore according to amanda, our cousin that is.

amanda[cousin]: i haven't see the straw anywhere at all... can i get something else for you? like a box of krispy kremes or something? actually wait. NO. i'm not willing to handcarry a box filled with sugar and flour... let me rephrase that. can you ask for something else that is sealed and contained and will pass through customs? like an i love melbourne shirt?

interesting requests from chermaine[mummy] and amanda[ah ma]: [to import from singapore]
"is it possible to bring hokkien mee? i mean if you put it in your luggage it should be fine right?"

"i miss muah chee! eh if you ask the shop owner to put the sticky stuff in one container and put the peanuts in another container it can survive right?"

"er. buy me 4 packs of foolscap"
"as in 4 books of foolscap?"
"NO. as in 4 packs. you know, the kind with 5 inside?"
"YOU'RE GOING BACK IN JUNE TOOT!'
"oh. yeah... then just buy me 2 packs then..."
"ten? why do you need so much?"
"oh yeah hor. i still got 5 in my room."

somehow i think if kaii and i listened to all their wishes, our luggage would be overweight, stopped at customs and altogether confiscated. however i think i can bring in hokkien mee... not sure though. it'll be rather disgustingly cold but i think with the good ole microwave, it should be fine...

lit, math, econs exams,
shopping,
then
HOME.

singapore-australia, import-export

gb had enrolment today. sad that i can't go and get the 9 year badge! but oh well, nothing i can do about it... vivien had no idea how to sew her harversack so asked me over msn. i had to webcam her to show her. apparently, according to ina, tee why was no help at all when it came to that. HAHA tee why. proves my point that you're a spoilt kid... even though you're not a kid anymore... sigh. i'd never thought i'd say this but, i miss gb.

meanwhile here in aus, we're having exams this coming week but they're not counted so i'm pretty ok with it. then again, i'm rarely stressed. then its the holidays! and i'm going back to singapore! to unlimited internet, good food and family and friends!

things to buy back to singapore:
for the 7 jam: starburst and chewing gum
for alicia: a koala [this i may not be able to obtain...]

things to buy back to aus:
for chermy: clean and clear toner, the largest bottle we can find
for krystle: the jumpop pencil- in pink
fahrenheit 451
diary of a mad man and other short stories
refil ink for 0.38 uniball pen, black
A4 sized notebooks, mg kind
hard drive

happy 17th birthday to liwen!

reply to amanda's comment

amanda, my neither so darling nor so bestest and definitely not the greatest cousin[i am].

yes i forgot melly... so:

addition to list:
melly- amanda uses it sometimes...

happy now? for goodness sakes, why do my cousins think they are the bestest? i mean each of them rock in their own way but,

there's one undeniable fact...

that is so blatantly obvious that most people miss it....

my cousins may stone sometimes, they rock most of the time

BUT.
i rule.

:)

i've got an english assignment.

usually i wouldn't be taking ages to do a paragraph vetting it a thousand times over but this one contributes to the final grade. and i've just finished it. YAY. passed to to xian to bring it to royal parade to pass it up.

happy birthday jo! you're 18 and please act like it! i mean eighteen year old generally don't go around abusing those shorter than them by poking them and waging a poking war when they've got their hands full with their dinner, i.e. me.

it was so nice of you to call me! thanks very much and missing you too!

another happy birthday

happy birthday bill. thanks for the cake smashing in my face.

bill's birthday was hilarious and stupid. we got him pink underwear and wrote our well wishes on it along with a jumper and boxers. he was sporting enough to put on the hot pink undies. his cake was smashed into his face by a few guys and suddenly, he decided that he should smash the cake onto the faces of the people responsible for his ruined chocolate cake. so chen got it first, then wai hoe, then xian, who doged the cake and it fell to the floor. the guys, being guys just picked up the chunks of cake from the floor, smoshed it together and gave xian another smashing. then bill remembered equality, regardless of gender so, amah, kaii, cherm and i got a smashing too. mine was the last. can you imagine the number of times its been on the floor?

wear our present bill!

one month

tomorrow will mark the one month that i've been here in melbourne. and, as kai puts it, we're alive and in one piece! its somewhat of an accomplishment, i guess? and i've only eaten one bowl of instant noodles so far! i thought i would eat a lot more instant noodles here... yay.

so one month down, and not including the holidays, 8 more months to go till i have my summer holidays and then 3 more years of university... whoosh.

rachel: my delusional cousin who thinks she's the best, thanks a lot. love your bestest cousin.

3rd post for the day

i was going around tagging people when i realised i entered different names for each tagboard, all variations of melissa... i shall make another list:

WHAT PEOPLE CALL ME:
melissa lim- if its the first day of school and the teacher's marking attendance
ms lim- if i'm in trouble with my dad
MELISSA- if i'm in trouble with my mum
mello- by most of my cousins and maddy
mel- by most friends
meliss- by manda
messa- by my aunt, my mum, generally people special to me
M1- by my dad, because i'm the first M among my sisters, and also by relatives that cannot remember our names. coincidentally, i use M1 as my mobile phone service provider
madelissa- this is a product of my mum's wonderful memory, its a mixture of the 3 of our names, melissa madeline and marianne. generally, all three of us respond to it.
madeline- by my mum, she's called me by my sister's name a few times...
small mel- by the gb seniors and jia en
mel mel- by certain people
me- by me
my chinese name- by my chinese teachers and my aunt

there's also the utterly random ones like:
tutu bogs- by marianne
ah bu- by kat
EH- by most people

i guess i miss being called madelissa or even madeline... even though mum can't remember, it still reminds you that you are part of a family that will always be there for you...

and, i wonder why i've never been called tall mel...

reply to rachel's comment

hello not the nicest, neither the dearest cousin!

congrats on your chinese a levels. after knowing you for 17 years, i never knew you had the brains! but seriously, congrats and keep up the mugging!

yes... i'm having fun here, without you, but i wish the 9jamers were here and the soh family... i still haven't finished the family tree! i still have our parents' generation and ours to go. which is like MASSIVE and complicated... you know what i mean.

thanks for reminding me that my term does suck you know... i really appreciate all these nice little comments

must go shopping when i come back! i'll drag you along, shopping buddy!

love your bestest, favoritest, dearest cousin! :D

interesting thingys

first week of lessons are over... at first i wasn't looking forward to going back to singapore during the april holidays i mean, who goes for 6 weeks and then comes back? besides me and kai? i mean people are going to go explore melbourne without us and when we come back they'll be bonded and we'll be left out. but then now i'm looking forward to going back to see family and my friends and using up all the internet i want. heh.

my dad emailed me and asked me what was the most interesting thing that happened to me here so far. i actually have a list. so here's the list:

LIST OF INTERESTING THINGS THAT HAVE HAPPENED TO MELISSA IN MELBOURNE:
-finding microwavable tang yuan in the asian grocer
-being the first one to lock my keys inside my room[i've done it twice so far]
-being able to hear the surprise in peoples' voices when i call them from here.
-drama classes[they are quite fun]
-playing hide and seek at the nearby playground

yeah... that's the top 5. i think...

still missing you!

06 March 2008

shopping

i don't go out as much as i used to in sec 4 i think...

then again when you live with 59 other people, you don't really need to go out to have fun... usually i go around to kai's or amanda and cherm's room. they don't come to mine because mine's smaller than cherm's and amanda's and its loads messier than kai's... heh. but i did clean up today and i now can consider my room walkable in... before i cleaned up i had to play hopscotch to get from one part to another.

clothes here are really cheap! even if you convert from aussie to s'pore dollar. you can get a top, a decent one, for $5-$10. i love love love it. as far as i know, a certain girl in albert house has managed to blow $600 in the last 3 weeks. last night there was a sale at melbourne central, a shopping centre, and she was moaning i want to go. and everyone, even some of the guys, was like you've spent so much already! you have to control your spending! in the end, our dear shopaholic went and bought stuff.

missing everyone back home.

cherm's birthday & casinos

HAPPY 17th BIRTHDAY CHERMY!!!

even though its a birthday away from home, hope it'll be a good one?

lunch was nice, if a little quiet... for the first time, bill managed to say nothing mean to chermaine... by not saying anything at all. i like the playground!

kaii and i had to withdraw money for textbooks and the only atm that was nearby was one on lygon, in a mini casino. so our withdrawal reciept says PLAYERS ON LYGON.
